Dr. Carlton Cauthen graduated from University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2002 before completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Lsu health sciences center. in New Orleans, LA from 2002 to 2005. He then completed a fellowship in Pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine. at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center from 2005 to 2008.
Dr. Cauthen has one office in South Carolina where he specializes in Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.

Pulmonary Critical Care
Critical care pulmonologists are trained in two closely-related areas of medicine: pulmonology & critical care. Dr. Cauthen treats patients suffering from life-threatening pulmonary disorders and diseases. These may include emphysema, pneumonia, lung cancer or COPD. As a critical care specialist, Dr. Cauthen is also trained to stabilize patients who are in critical condition and require mechanical ventilation.

Sleep Medicine
Sleep medicine specialists diagnose and treat various disorders and diseases relating to sleep. This can include a range of conditions including insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, nightmares and others. Dr. Cauthen utilizes a variety of diagnostic tools including screening devices, overnight sleep studies or oximeters, among many others. Treatments can include CPAP therapy, implantation of sleep devices, counseling, lifestyle modifications, and others aimed at eliminating or alleviating the symptoms of sleep conditions.
