Dr. Carolynn Young is honored to be selected in the most recent issue of Washingtonian’s Top Doctors (2014). Dr. Young is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and she has focused her career on gynecology and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. She was the Chief of Gynecology at Surburban Hospital from 2009 to 2012, and she performs advanced gynecologic procedures using the daVinci robotic system. Dr. Young is a Phi Beta Kappa member and Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Michigan. She obtained her M.D. from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She then attended Eastern Virginia Medical School for residency in OB/GYN. After residency, Dr. Young joined a practice in the Virginia Beach area which specialized in advanced pelvic floor surgery. In 2004, Dr. Young continued her OB/GYN career in Rockville, MD. She is currently the medical director at Shady Grove Pregnancy Center.
Dr. Young enjoys educating women about advances in the field of gynecology. Dr. Young presented Grand Rounds at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in February of 2010 on the topic of HPV testing in cervical cancer screening. She was a featured speaker at Suburban Hospital’s “Wisdom for Women” symposium in February of 2010, and spoke again in June 2010 at Suburban on the topic of advances in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Dr. Young performed the first daVinci robotically-assisted laparoscopic gynecologic procedure at Suburban Hospital in early 2009, and has continued to utilize the daVinci system to perform multiple laparoscopic procedures, including hysterectomy, myomectomy, resection of endometriosis, and removal of ovarian cysts. She has a special interest in the treatment of uterine fibroids, abnormal bleeding, contraception, adolescent gynecology and abnormal pap smears.
Dr. Young strives to provide the best treatment for each patient. If medical options are not successful or desired, she has advanced training in minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery, which enables her to provide patients with cutting-edge technology to reduce pain, decrease hospitalization, and speed recovery.
Rockville Gynecology supports both local and international charities. Monthly donations are made to the Stepping Stones Shelter in Rockville, Maryland, and DirectRelief, which provides humanitarian medical aid throughout the United States and world-wide. Dr. Young also donates her time to the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center, where she serves as the medical director.
Outside of work, Dr. Young enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, exercising, and reading.
As a gynecologist in Rockville, Dr. Young provides comprehensive care for the reproductive system in women. Dr. Young may perform a variety of preventive and diagnostic tests to preempt or treat diseases and complications affecting women. Dr. Young provides ongoing care for women, performing yearly evaluations to ensure the reproductive health of patients, and can serve as a primary care provider.
