Following in the footsteps of my father, Dr. George Suckow, who practiced psychiatry in the greater Salem area for over fifty years, I returned to the Willamette Valley in the fall of 2008. At this junction of my career, I have transitioned from community-based to private-practice based psychiatry. Nevertheless, my treatment approach/philosophy remains unchanged--for any given mental health condition/illness that I might see several times in any given day, this does not change that the specific person I am meeting with has a unique history, one that is not appropriately captured with diagnostic labels or the like. It is through careful listening and discussion of each person's individualized presentation that, working in tandem, we can strive towards transformation to a happier, more fulfilled day-to-day life.
Dr. Joel Suckow is a psychiatrist, or a primary care doctor for psychological health. He works on the psychological well-being of men and women, with an ability to identify and treat all of the different types of psychological illness. These might include things like depressive disorders, eating disorders, bipolar disorder or anxiety disorders, for example. Dr. Suckow may provide treatments ranging from medication management plans to unique types of therapy.
